Processing case: Overcoming the warping problem of 7075 thin-walled aluminum alloy bracket
We once processed a high-strength thin-walled aluminum bracket for a model aircraft customer. The material is 7075-T6 aluminum alloy, and the requirements are as follows:
The part size is 120mm × 60mm × 8mm, and there are multiple special-shaped lightweight holes in the middle
The wall thickness is only 1.0mm, and countersunk holes need to be processed at both ends. The flatness of the mounting surface is required to be ≤0.02mm
The surface needs to be sandblasted and anodized, and there must be no deformation, burrs or knife marks
Difficulty analysis:
7075 aluminum has high strength but poor ductility. It is easy to heat up locally during cutting to produce internal stress, causing the part to warp or twist after release;
Thin-walled structures are very likely to produce vibration and resonance during cutting, affecting the surface finish and hole accuracy;
If the deformation is not controlled after processing, the stress will be released again during the anodizing process, resulting in dimensional instability.
Solution
Use high-speed spindle (20000rpm) + small feed processing strategy to reduce heat concentration and cutting load;
Use special vacuum adsorption fixture to fix the workpiece to prevent vibration and offset;
Use multi-stage shallow cutting + reverse tool path for finishing, which is completed in partitions to ensure balanced stress release;
After processing, natural aging treatment is carried out for 48 hours before surface treatment to control deformation accumulation;
Before leaving the factory, three-coordinate detection of key holes and countersunk planes is performed to ensure correct installation and matching.
Through this series of control measures, the dimensional accuracy and appearance of parts meet the requirements of aviation assembly.
