Processing case: Deformation control of extremely thin-walled aluminum shells
We processed an aluminum alloy probe shell for an optoelectronic company with the following requirements:
Material: 6061-T6
Size: Φ85mm × Height 45mm
Features: The inner cavity of the shell is a thin-walled structure, only 1.2mm thick, containing threads and support ribs
Surface treatment: anodized black, surface Ra≤0.8
The overall concentricity of the part is required to be <0.015mm, and the appearance is free of deformation and indentation
Processing difficulties:
Thin walls are easy to deform, and uneven force or clamping during processing will cause deformation;
Slight structural changes may occur before and after anodizing due to stress release;
The wall contains threads and support ribs, and the space is small, which is inconvenient for processing and measurement;
Our solution
Use a five-axis machining center with a special light-pressure elastic clamp to ensure clamping while avoiding crushing;
Adopt a staged processing process (rough processing → natural aging → fine processing) to control the release of internal stress;
Use micro-diameter taps and internal cooling cutting fluid on the threaded part to prevent chip blockage and flattening;
After anodizing, perform a secondary slight grinding + CMM inspection to ensure dimensional consistency.
Finally, the aluminum CNC prototype successfully passed the customer's precision assembly test, with a yield rate of 100% and a delivery cycle of only 7 days.
