We have customized a batch of stainless steel slender shafts for precision sensors for a customer, with the following parameters:
Material: SUS304
Size: φ5mm × length 150mm, aspect ratio of 30:1
Precision requirements: full-length coaxiality ≤ 0.01mm, end face runout ≤ 0.005mm, surface Ra ≤ 0.4μm
Application: internal precision optical system coupling assembly
Processing difficulties:
The aspect ratio is too large, and bending or tool vibration is prone to occur during processing;
The workpiece needs to be aligned at both ends, and the processing coaxiality and center must be accurately aligned;
The surface requires a mirror effect, which is difficult to achieve with ordinary cutting.
Our solution
Use a dedicated tailstock support + reverse clamping process to reduce the impact of deformation;
Multi-stage rough turning + semi-finishing turning + finishing turning path setting to avoid cutting too deep at one time;
Use a dedicated turning and polishing tool to improve surface finish;
Each product is fully inspected by a coaxiality meter and a runout meter before leaving the factory.
