Processing difficulties and solutions for complex structures of robot joint housings

We once customized a joint drive housing for a robot customer. The part is made of aluminum alloy 7075, and the structural shape is a combination of multiple bevels + special-shaped cavities + deep holes. A total of 8 bevel holes and step structures at different angles need to be processed at one time, and the tolerance is controlled within ±0.015mm.

 

 

Each hole position is at a non-orthogonal angle to the reference plane, and ordinary 3-axis equipment cannot process it at one time;

Some inner holes are as deep as 60mm, and the vertical hole deviation requirements are extremely high;

The processing area is close to the clamping point, and there is a risk of tool vibration and deformation.

 

Use a five-axis machining center to complete all surface machining in one clamping to avoid benchmark errors caused by changing equipment;

Introduce a five-axis linkage path optimization algorithm in the programming stage to ensure accurate transition of the tool entry and exit angles;

Use a customized long-edge integral tungsten steel milling cutter, combined with the strategy of "less cutting and fast cutting", to eliminate deep hole chatter marks;

After machining, use CMM three-coordinate full-size scanning to verify that the critical surface and hole position meet the standards 100%.
