Processing details case: high-performance server module heat sink
A North American customer requested a customized CNC machined heat sink for server cooling system, with extremely high dimensional accuracy requirements:

Radiator size: 210mm × 120mm × 35mm

Material: 6061-T6 aluminum alloy

Features: 60 thin-piece teeth on the top, each piece is 1.2mm thick; both ends need to be milled with smooth rail grooves, and the four corners need to be tapped with M3 deep holes

Requirements: surface roughness Ra<1.0, flatness<0.03mm, all hole position errors<±0.01mm

 

 

The heat dissipation teeth are extremely thin, and the CNC clamping and cutting vibrations are large, which are easy to deform;

The distance between the deep hole and the tooth piece is extremely small, and the teeth will be broken and scrapped if there is a slight deviation;

The overall flatness and surface roughness are strictly controlled, and customers use it for high-end electronic equipment

We use the following solutions:

Customized multi-point adsorption vacuum clamps, which can stably clamp without pressing the heat sink;

Use small tool layered slow feed processing + coolant atomization system to effectively reduce vibration marks and thermal deformation;

After processing, use three-coordinate + white light interferometer double detection to ensure that all geometric dimensions are within tolerance.

The final product was delivered smoothly, and customers reported that the thermal conductivity efficiency was excellent and the structural assembly had zero error. At present, an annual frame agreement has been signed for supply.
